Hey there! We’re Pabasha and Eric, MSAP’s Co-Chairs for 2022.
We’re both currently third year medical students at UNSW and have been involved in MSAP since our first year of medical school. Having been MSAP’s First Year Representatives (2020) and Education Officers (2021), we are passionate about making a difference in the global health sphere and deeply care about MSAP’s impact and longevity moving forward.
As such, our vision for MSAP in 2022 comprises 4 goals that are focussed on encouraging sustainable and impactful growth of this organisation. These goals are summarised below:
While we’re extremely proud of the holistic progress MSAP has made since 2001— expanding from just global health aid provision to global health education and advocacy — we aim to focus more heavily on decolonising global health in 2022. This will involve re-thinking the way our events are structured and promoted.
We also hope to continue to establish long-term partnerships with external organisations to expand our sponsor outreach, and, equally, to maintain existing relationships with MSAP’s vast alumni network.
Additionally, we will look at prioritising carbon offsetting to evolve as a socially accountable group. A carbon offsetting mark-up will be included in the ticket price of all our events, and all carbon offsetting proceeds will go towards the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor
Finally, we will strive to prioritise MSAP executive and member welfare by instituting tools such as “Self-Care Leave Periods” and a Welfare Policy.
This year, MSAP will continue to run its trademark events including the Global Health Short Course (GHSC), Birthing Kit Night (BKN), Maternal Health Workshop (MHW), Treevia, Interpreter Night and our overseas Elective Aid Program (EAP). Some events temporarily discontinued due to COVID-19 restrictions, such as Food For Thought, will also be re-instituted. In addition to these events and projects, MSAP has plans to launch a few new projects to expand our advocacy and education efforts. These include an event planned in collaboration with Eat Up Australia and a potential inter-university event to increase MSAP’s student engagement across Australia.
We hope you are excited about the direction MSAP will take in 2022, and that you will engage actively with our projects!
