Local Advocacy

Our local advocacy has been heightened since the Covid-19 pandemic, with the establishment of the Rural Elective Aid Program, alongside our long-term activities, organised by our Code Green, Crossing Borders, and Projects portfolios. These activities are designed to spark new insights in their attendees, and encourage individuals to contribute meaningfully to a range of causes.

Global Health Short Course

Annually, MSAP runs the Global Health Short Course (GHSC) which is a lecture series aiming to educate and champion health issues affecting the developing world. The inaugural course, is overwhelmingly popular and have previously attracted over 200 attendees. Open to all UNSW students across campus, and also students from other universities, the course is a great way to be informed and gather ideas about how you could change the world. Students are accredited following completion of the course.

Rural Elective Aid Project

The Rural Elective Aid Program (REAP) was developed as an alternative to the International Elective Aid Program in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Medical students at UNSW voluntarily undertake elective terms in rural and regional medical centres, and MSAP partners with students to respond to the needs of such centres. This has seen donations of medical equipment and resources as required.

Inclusive Features

As part of the Strategic Vision of the 2022 Executive, MSAP is seeking to advocate in an inclusive, sustainable and culturally competent manner. This sees the continuation of existing events, including delegations at the Palm Sunday and Climate Health Rallies, and educational evenings around climate sustainability and refugee and asylum seeker health. Our internal operations are further being supported by the development of a Sustainability Policy, and Welfare Policy.
